Revolution Chiropractics’ Revolutionary Way

What do we do at Revolution Chiropractic and how is this revolutionary?

The primary objective for us at Revolution Chiropractic unlike any other Chiropractic Office is to make sure we reset your structure to normal. Most chiropractor talk about restoring your posture but this is not the same as your structure. Some chiropractors will even go as far as saying that they are restoring your structure but they are not doing anything other than standard adjustments of the spine.
The structure does not change with standard adjustments alone. I’ve spent 5 years analysing and researching this topic and although adjustments are literally the most amazing thing you could do for your body… and they are a great tool for resetting your nervous system and improving mobility and flexibility, reducing pain and discomfort… they won’t be as effective as they can really have the potential to be if you don’t follow up the adjustments with some specific rehabilitation. Also,  structural corrective chiropractors will utilise different adjustments techniques proven to improve your structure. The standard way most chiropractors adjust you just won’t do it.

Firstly let’s clear up some misinformation out there about posture and the correction of it…

Your posture depends on your structure. So any postural things you improve will not be long term if your structure is out. There are many practitioners that are posture focused but from my knowledge and understanding this is kind of a bit of waste of time if your structure is out. & most of these practitioners won’t look at your structure at all, they don’t know how to access your structure and how to correct it. First of all, a structural corrective chiropractic adjustment is needed before you do any rehab otherwise your structure won’t change. How can it when it’s been fixated in one position for years potentially? There is so much adhesion and scar tissue around some of these structural shifts that an superficial exercise won’t have that much effect on.

You need a structural corrective chiropractic adjustment to start the engine. These adjustments literally fire up your joint and muscle receptors. There’s new information being fed from your body to your brain via you nervous system. Then your brain can alter its control of your body / make it more appropriate and better.⁣

So now…what do I mean by structure and what’s a normal structure?

structural chiropractic
Well you see, your spine has 2 primary curves. The ‘Cervical Lordosis’ and the ‘Lumbar Lordosis’ which basically means the ‘neck curve’ and the ‘lower back curve’ (most commonly known as the lower back arch).
A normal structure has these two curves in their correct position and form like the left side of the picture shown.
The right side of the picture as you can see has a different structure. The neck curve looks straightened and it’s forward, the lower back curve also looks straightened and guess what happens to the mid back? It accentuates and you get that ‘bad posture’  or ‘granny hump’ look. Why does this matter and how can it impact your musculoskeletal health and your overall health?

Here is how it all works

When a bone in misaligned, it doesn’t have its proper motion and movement that it normally should have. Why is this important and what can a structural chiropractor do to improve your health? ⁣Well without a properly functioning joint, the muscles that surround that joint become useless. Additionally, they also lose nerve connection to your brain. How? Let’s look at a couple of analogies to understand this. ⁣
1. What happens to the muscles when you break a bone and have to put a cast around it to wait for the bone to repair? The muscles waste away right? They get smaller and weaker. Why? Because without joint activity and movement, muscles don’t need to do anything.⁣
So this is how muscles around a misaligned joint that doesn’t move properly lose their strength. They become weak and are therefore less supportive for your structure, creating abnormalities in your structure⁣
and posture and without the muscle support you will damage joints, bursas, capsules, discs, nerves and all that’s within them. ⁣
2. Muscles and joint have mechanoreceptors that send information up to your brain (via your nerves) so that your brain can alter its control of the body / make it more appropriate and better.⁣
Without joint motion and muscle activity, these receptors also don’t work . Therefore, the brain doesn’t have accurate information from the body. Hence why it doesn’t control the body the best possible way. It’s use it or lose it for the brain, once it’s had a while of lack of proper connection to a part of your body, it will become more and more confused. This will create more compensations in your body which causes tightness and stiffness in your muscles resulting in pain. Your pain may also be coming from repetitive trauma on your joints and all the structures within the joint because of lack of muscular support. ⁣

So at Revolution Chiropractic we take it up a notch

We probably… in fact I’m willing to bet that we have the most thorough process of consultation and examination of any chiropractor in New Zealand at least. Most chiropractors have pre-printed reports they run through with you to tell you what’s going on in your spine. They have pre-printed recommendations on your water intake, caffeine intake, exercises and so on. They do their consult, examination and adjustments in no more than 20 minutes and they’ll have your report done in 5-10 minutes. Thereafter your appointments will be anywhere between 3-5 minutes.
Okay… believe me, I KNOW how amazing chiropractic adjustments can be. Putting in the bare minimum effort gets your a long way and you look like you’re a god sent. What I’m saying here is not to downplay chiropractic at all… I mean I am in LOVE with chiropractic and what it does for us. However at Revolution Chiropractic we like to push chiropractic to highs that most chiropractors don’t bother doing so… it costs them time and money to do so… and quite frankly it’s not as profitable.

So what do we do that’s so different?

Firstly, we like to see the individual for a free consultation and then decide if we can help and inform them how exactly we can help, including costs. This free consultation is 30 minutes long with one of our strutural chiropractors.
Only if you are a good candidate for structural corrective care and you want to fix your issues at their core, we go through to a complete structural examination which includes structural spinal analysis using specialised equipment and x-rays.
After analysing your postural photographs taken in our office and your X-rays in detail plus all the other information acquired during the examination we conduct a thorough report of diagnosis, rehabilitation and recommendations on various parts of your lifestyle. These can be things such as sitting, standing, sleeping, nutrition, supplements, etc.
This process takes up anywhere between 30-90 minutes and your report is detailed to its’ core. It can be anywhere from 10-15 pages long.
We also adjust your spine specific to what’s going on in your structure to correct it as well as restoring your spinal curves to normal again using specialised rehabilitation equipment.⁣

We see all sorts of musculoskeletal and non-musculoskeletal conditions at Revolution

We see many people with neck or back pain and bulging or herniated discs. Usually they have gone through procedures like microdiscectomies previously who are back to square one a year or two down the road. (Micro-discectomy is surgery to remove herniated disc material that is pressing on a nerve root or the spinal cord). Upon a very detailed examination we find the cause of WHY your discs are herniating to start with. After that we treat the actual CAUSE so that this cycle of herniation, microdiscectomy, herniation, bandage treatment stops.⁣
We also see individuals with pain and problems in other areas of their body. For instance, shoulder pain, knee pain, ankle or foot pain, shin splints, pregnancy related issues. Additionally, there are always those people with things such as:
  • Post concussion syndrome
  • Dizziness and vertigo
  • TMJ dysfunctions (jaw pain)
  • Sinusitis and recurrent sinus infections
  • Brain fog which we also help
Of course it is pertinent you see your structural chiropractor for any head or neck related injuries such as concussions and whiplash.

Benefits of Dark Chocolate

Introduction

Who’s a big chocolate fan?? I know I am. And when I mean chocolate, I mean dark chocolate. Like at least 40% Cacao. Anything underneath that isn’t really classified as proper chocolate to me. Those usually contain a high amount of sugar and dairy and don’t really have the full health benefit that Cacao does. So today, let’s dive into the 4 benefits of consuming chocolate.

Benefits of eating chocolate

  • Cocao is super nutritious. Just as perspective 100 grams of dark chocolate contains 11grams of fiber. Fiber is essential for your digestive system. Allowing stools to pass through with ease. It also covers many other daily nutrients as well and a good portion of recommended daily intake such as 67% of iron, 58% of magnesium, 89% of copper, and a lot of other stuff. But please don’t eat 100g of dark chocolate as they are also very calorie-dense.
  • Cacao has the ability to improve blood flow. Inside our arteries, there is a lining called the endothelium. The function of the endothelium is to act as a filter and regulate blood flow by relaxing the arteries. This process is done by producing Nitric Oxide. Research has shown that cacao stimulates the production of nitric oxide in the arteries thus allowing a better flow of blood in the arteries.
  • Cacao can lower LDL while raising HDL. In a study, cocoa powder showed that it can reduce oxidated LDL. LDL itself is bad because it can clog the artery making it harder for blood to pass through. Oxidated LDL is even worse as once it reacts with oxygen it is capable of damaging surrounding tissue like arteries in your heart. HDL is the good cholesterol and helps maintain the levels of LDL. So eating dark chocolate in moderate amounts is good for heart health.
  • Finally, consuming moderate amounts of chocolate can improve brain function. This is because chocolate can improve blood flow. This includes blood flow into the brain. Thus the brain will get more nutrients and oxygen, allowing it to grow and function at its best. A study also showed that it can significantly improve cognitive function and verbal fluency, especially in the older population. This is due to the fact that cacao has a stimulant similar to coffee, resulting in short term improvement in brain function.

Conclusion

Chocolate is a super delicious and affordable treat. A couple of benefits are nutritional values, improve blood flow, cholesterol maintenance, and improvement in brain function. It’s a lovely treat for your body but remember to have it in moderation. Too much chocolate will result in diabetes and other health issues due to too much sugar consumption.

Dark chocolate has many health benefits such as brain health and immunity!!!

Fruits – should we eat them? And why not?

Introduction

Fruits come in all shapes and sizes and colors. Some are sour, some are sweet and some just smell terribly bad. Now they are full of sugar in the form of fructose but they also contain plenty of other nutrients in them. So today we’ll run through some of the benefits of consuming fruit on a regular basis and whether it should or should not be a part of your regular diet.

Fruits – nutrients, fiber, antioxidants, minerals, and other benefits

So fruits contain so many nutrients. Fibre, antioxidants, and minerals are just some of the benefits found in fruit. Of course, each fruit differs from each other but you can find these generally in all of them. Fibers are only in whole fruits. Whole fruits are fruits that have not gone through processing. So canned fruit and preserved fruit are unlikely to contain much if any fiber at all. Fiber is used to help us process food in the colon. It softens stools making it easier to pass through. But in order for it to work adequately, there must be enough water intake otherwise the effects will reverse. Antioxidants are another word for vitamins. There are 13 different types of vitamins out there and depending on the fruit, it’ll contain different vitamins. Vitamins are essential nutrients that cannot be naturally made in the human body. As a result, the only way to get them is through food. Vitamins assist the proper function of the body from the nervous system to the immune system. Depending on the vitamin it can help with different aspects of the body. Often vitamins are the stimulants that the body needs to create a certain chemical in the body like hormones and white blood cells. Fruits also contain plenty of minerals. Minerals are chemical elements that support proper functioning. Just like vitamins, they help the body grow and function properly. Minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and zinc can help with bone growth, nervous system, and immune system respectively. Again the types of mineral present are totally dependent on the fruit.

Fruits – for everyone?

Even though fruit is super nutritious, it may not be for everyone. They are very high in sugar and carbohydrates. It is this sugar that makes it extremely delicious and sweet. However, if you are on a ketogenic diet it may not be for you. This is because this diet requires the body to use its energy reserve for the body to lose weight. Carbohydrates are the first source of fuel and once piece of fruit can contain up to 20 grams of carbohydrates. If the body is full of sugars, it will not use the reserve energy first. Secondly, if you are diabetic fruits may not be the best option for you too. Although fruit contains less sugar than soft drinks, lollies, and other sugary sweets, it still contains a decent amount. To get diabetes under control, the best is to have less or completely cut out sugars.

Conclusion

Fruits are the perfect snacks! They are relatively low in calories, delicious (well most of them), and extremely nutritious. They are full of fiber, antioxidants, and minerals which are crucial for the body to maintain function. However, if you are diabetic or on a ketogenic diet, I would recommend you to stay away or minimize their consumption.

Stay Safe and boost your immune system

Introduction

Covid-19 is all around the place. However, just because it’s a new virus we shouldn’t be afraid of it. It’s a new virus and it’s going to stay just like the common cold. However, this doesn’t mean there aren’t any ways to prevent that terrible thing from getting to you. So today, the team at Revolution Chiropractic put up a list of things that you can do to help you boost your immune system and stay safe!

Wash your hands

Imagine all the stuff that we touch every day and the same object being touched by other people. We don’t know what the person before you who has touched the same object has. So to be safe wash your hands after you go to the bathroom, before and after you eat. Remember a rinse under the tap isn’t enough so use soap and give your hands a rub. After drying it thoroughly, especially between the fingers. Bacteria love moisture so doesn’t give it a chance for it to grow. Washing our hands can help prevent the spread of bacteria.

Vitamin C

It is no secret that vitamin C can help with immunity. A strong immune system can prevent us from getting sick. This is because vitamin C helps your body stimulate more production of white blood cells which is designed to help your body fight off bacteria. Plenty of fruits and vegetables contain vitamin C; oranges, kiwifruit, broccoli, and berries are just a few. If you think you are not having enough or would like an extra boost, there are supplements available.

Rest

Rest is the best way to cure any sickness. A lot of the time when we get sick is because our body is already weak, this makes it an easy target for bacteria to attack our body. The best way to rest is to sleep. While we are sleeping it provides an opportunity for our body to recover and strengthen. So it’s important to get 8 hours of quality sleep every day. There are several ways to improve your sleep such as supplementation (ie magnesium) and staying off your screen 30 minutes prior to going to bed. To know more about sleep quality check out our other blogs!

Stay home

Stay home if you are sick! That’s the best way to prevent bacteria and viruses from being spread around the community. If you are home you can also get more rest to allow proper recovery too. If we can minimize the spread of the bacteria or virus, it will become less harmful and toxic. So do the community a good thing and stay home if you are feeling under the weather. This applies to kids as well, we don’t want other kids getting sick during this period of time.

Get Exercising

It has been proven that exercise can help your immune system function a lot better! In your bloodstream, there are many white blood cells. The function of the white blood cell is to get rid of the unwanted bacteria, viruses, and other yucky stuff that’s unwanted in your body. By exercising, it increases the speed of your blood flow. This results in white blood cells traveling around the body a lot quicker leading to an increased rate of detection and elimination.

Iron

This mineral is very useful for our body! The main job of iron is to help carry oxygen around the body through the bloodstream. However, not many people know it can help with the efficiency and function of the immune system. When there is too little iron in the body, it slows down the maturation and proliferation of the white blood cells, especially lymphocytes, thus exposing you to more danger. However, if you have too much iron in your body it can also facilitate the growth of pathogens and other cancerous cells. But don’t worry, nearly 80% of the world’s population is iron deficient. To increase the amount of iron in your body instantly, you can include dried fruits such as prunes, spinach, silverbeet, lettuce), beans and peas, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and some meats too.

Zinc

Another mineral that is often overlooked when it comes to nutrition and immunity. This mineral is often found in food such as whole grains, milk, red meats, oysters, poultry, beans, peas, and nuts! Zinc directly contributes to the immune system in two ways. Firstly, it prevents the binding of the virus to cells thus inhibiting the chance of the virus taking over the cell. Secondly, this mineral is crucial for the development of white blood cells in the body to help the innate immune system to fight off viruses and bacteria.

Water

Hydration is key to the human body. In fact, 60% of your body is made up of water. Our cells need and crave water to function. This is because just like iron, water acts as one of the carrying agents for oxygen around the body which is needed all around the body including the health of the immune system. Additionally, it prevents the build-up of toxins which could influence the body in a negative way. So make sure you get at least 2L of water in you every day.

Boost your immune system!

The Immune System and Chiropractic

What is the immune system?

The immune system is our natural defense against outside pathogens such as bacteria or viruses. It is constantly working to prevent us from getting sick or infected, or to help get us better as efficiently as possible if we do become infected. It can affect how often we get sick, how hard we are hit by sickness, and how long it will take to recover. When it does become infected by something, it keeps a record of this. So that it is better equipped to fight it if it ever returns again. The immune system contains many different parts. Including but not limited to: white blood cells, antibodies, skin bone marrow, spleen, lymphatic system, and the thymus. They all have their own role in preventing and fighting infection.

How can the immune system become weakened?

Some people are born with conditions that weaken their immune system. It can weaken from acquired diseases (such as HIV/AIDS), or through some types of medical treatment (such as chemotherapy)1. In addition, there are also lifestyle habits that can weaken our immune system such as prolonged stress, under or over-exercising, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and poor diet2.

How does chiropractic affect the immune system?

It is important to look at the lifestyle factors that may be weakening our immune system and modify these where possible. However, there are other ways we can help to strengthen our immune system. One of these ways is through chiropractic care. Chiropractic care is all about removing interference from the nervous system, which is caused by all the different stresses in our lives. When our nerve system is free of interference this allows our brain and our body to communicate more freely and accurately. If our brain and body are communicating well this allows the brain to be better. As a result, it is able to detect what is happening in the body, such as an infection, and to organize the necessary elements needed to fight this.

When the communication between the brain and the body has no interference, the brain can register what is happening faster. As a result, the body can start fighting any sickness or infection as soon as possible in order to minimize damage to the body and reduce the duration of sickness. Moreover, decreased nervous system interference also allows our brain and nervous system to better coordinate all body systems. When the immune and nervous system can coordinate their responses more efficiently this keeps our body more resilient and healthy. As a result, the more coordinated our immune and nervous systems, the more likely to beat sickness and infection fast, and with the least amount of damage to the body3.

Cont.

A great example of chiropractic helping boost immune function the impact that chiropractors had during the Spanish Flu. The Spanish Flu (1918-1920) was one of the world’s worst pandemics, with somewhere between 20-50 million people dying4. While it was a devastating time in history, something amazing happened when those affected went to see their chiropractor. In a city in Iowa, it was shown that every 1 out of 15 of those infected that went to medical doctors died. However, only 1 out of every 866 patients that went to a chiropractor died. Moreover, there were 233 cases that medical doctors had given up on, and after chiropractic care all but 25 of these cases survived. As a result, this amazing feat led to many licenses in the US5!

This all comes down to the fact that chiropractic clears interference from the nervous system. In addition, they allow all systems of the body to function at their best, including the immune system. Chiropractic is extremely beneficial for anyone looking to boost their immune function – it saves lives!

The Next Big Thing In Health

Perspective and Health

Once again another Covid-19 is dominating the news again. But did you know this is not the first time a deadly virus, flu, bacteria, or disease that has caused the world so much trouble? In recent history I can already name 5 deadly virus that has caused problems; the 1918 Spanish Flu, 1957 Influenza Pandemic, 2003 Sars, 2009 Swine Flu and 2012 Mers. Seems like in the last 100 years these problems have kept on arising and we have been extremely reactive to each situation. Of course, the medical team is doing a great job in finding constant cures and other ways to help the human body when we are affected by these nasty viruses. But surely, we can’t be so reactive to every situation that arises. Yes, I understand how quickly viruses mutate. So I believe, the next big thing in health will be how we can enhance our current health and be more preventative to prepare ourselves against the next big thing.

To prepare ourselves for the next big pandemic, there must be a shift in mindset in society. We must work on our inner wellness. To do that, I believe that education on good health habits should start at an early age. To increase inner health, ingrain a couple of ideas in early childhood so that they can be formed as habits. These ideas are simple; eating healthy, getting a good amount of regular rest, and being active as much as possible are a few simple ideas that can easily be implemented in healthcare education. I believe that after this lockdown, we should all be all looking at ways to improve our inner health. This may sound easier said than done, but hopefully, if everyone starts being more aware of their own health and take environmental issues seriously, to prevent future events like this to stop happening again.

4 Natural & Effective Ways to Lower Cholesterol

High cholesterol levels is something that effects around 31% of the human population. Having a cholesterol levels can lead to high blood pressure, angina and kidney diseases. In more serious cases it can lead to strokes and heart attacks. This is because cholesterol builds up in our arteries and blood vessels. Due to this build up, it leads to a narrower vessel hence the increase in blood pressure and the increase likelihood of blockages. However, it’s not all doom and gloom, today let’s discuss 4 ways for you to lower your cholesterol.

  1. Reduce the amount of saturated fats in your diet. This is because it contains high amounts of LDL. This is a type of cholesterol that is harmful for the body as it leaves build ups and is easily solidified in room temperature. Thus leading to narrower blood vessels in the body. We find saturated fats in many unhealthy foods such as pies, cakes and different types of pastries. This is because they are all made from some sort of animal products like butter and margarine. Another way to avoid food that contains high amount of saturated fats is to consume less processed meats. This is because it is often mixed with cuts of meat that contains high amount of animal fat.
  2. Consume food that is high in omega-3. Even though omega-3 is a fat it does not build up in the body as it is classified as an HDL. Think of it like this, omega-3 is the oil that keeps the mechanics well oiled. If everything in your body is well oiled, it’ll function smoothly and be kept in a better state. By keeping the arteries better oiled, it decreases the amount of plaque and fatty builds up from the LDL. As a result, even if you do have high cholesterol, it’ll lower your blood pressure. Leading to a lower likelihood of heart diseases.
  3. While we are sticking to recommended foods, it is highly recommended for people with high cholesterol to consume soluble fibres like beans, oats, citrus fruits and barley. This is because our body is not able to digest these foods. This create a small barrier where these soluble fibres are then attached to the cholesterol, preventing it from getting into the blood stream. In addition, soluble fibres helps your gut bacteria (probiotics) function better. So start consuming more fibre right now!
  4. Do some exercises. Research has shown that there is a direct correlation between exercise and lower cholesterol levels. This is because exercise stimulates a higher production of HDL levels. As we have mentioned it above, HDKL decreases the amount of plaque and fatty build ups in the arteries. As a recommendation, exercise 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. It can be anything from brisk walking to playing a sport that you enjoy.

Here are 4 tips on how to reduce cholesterol. Remember, it won’t be decreased overtime. Try these tips for a couple of months and retest your levels after. Sometimes it may take even longer. But I guarantee that if you stick to it, results will show over time!

Morning Exercise Benefits

We have mentioned many times about the importance of consistent exercise. However, most of us just exercise whenever we want and do not have a set routine. But for results to show, it is best to be consistent. So is it better to work out in the morning or the evening?

Well in this first part, I would like to discuss the pros and cons of working out in the morning.

Positives:

  • Working out in the morning can give your day a kick start. Most of us are a bit slow in the morning. However, if we exercise first thing when we wake up, it’s a natural way to boost metabolism. It can be even more effective than coffee and it will provide you long lasting energy for the rest of the day.
  • You are more concentrated during the workout. When we exercise the first thing in the morning, we have no thoughts in our minds. Additionally, most people may not even be up by then so it is less likely that you will have distractions going on. This could be emails that you need to reply, text messages and phone calls. You will be more in the zone as many people are still asleep at that time during the day
  • Morning workouts have shown to improve the quality of your sleep. This is because your body will have had the whole day to settle down from the adrenaline and the endorphins. Additionally, it’ll help the body to release melatonin (a hormone that helps sleep cycle) earlier in the evening. Thus it will allow you to go to bed early and wake up early.
  • It burns more body fat than working out in the evening. This is because you are working out on an empty stomach. Our muscles need fuel for it to function. If we don’t have food in our stomach, our bodies will feed off what we have stored first. That first fuel source is fat.

Negatives:

  • Increase likelihood of injury. In the morning, your muscles and ligament are at its stiffest point. This is because while you were asleep, everything in your body would have been still for at least 6 hours. The best way to counter this is to do a thorough warm up before you start your work out. This way, you muscles will be able to function at its best.
  • You might to be able to perform as well as you would like. Again this relates to the point above being that your body is still in a rested states and joints aren’t functioning properly. Research has shown that the optimal muscle output is during the evening or late afternoon. This is due to the fact that your body has had the entire day to acclimatise to proper tension and movement. Again, to counter this problem is to do a very good workout to get everything functioning as well as it can in the morning.
  • Burnout may happen if we push ourselves way too hard. This is because the body is functioning at a high intensity on an empty stomach. I know it can be more effective at burning fat but pushing it over the line may be harmful. Your body may not be able to take it. So the best way to counter it, is to work out at 80% rather than 100%. This way, your body will avoid burnout but it is still effective.

This blog talked about the positives of doing an early workout. There are many great things about it such as more energy throughout the day, less distractions, improve sleeping quality and more effective in fat burning. However, if we don’t warm up properly working out in the morning can lead to more injuries and a decrease performance during the work out. Additionally, it may even cause fatigue and burn out if pushed too far. Next blog will be about the benefits of working out in the evening. Hopefully by then you’ll find the most suitable time for you to do your exercise.

Whole Foods

This era has unlimited food on the supermarket shelves. We’ve got plenty of meats, vegetables, grains, oats, dairy products etc. However, not everything on the shelves is safe to eat in the long run. But there will always be one part of the supermarket that’s always going to be reliable and delicious; that’s whole foods.

So what are whole foods? Whole foods are a group of foods that has not been processed or went through minimum processing before being put on the shelves. Previously fresh meat and oils were also considered in the category. However, now that some meat contain antibiotics and hormones while we now know that even some oils are heavily processed before distributed. So nowadays, whole food are mostly fruits and vegetables that have not been processed or refined. Oats, legumes, beans are some of them.

So why are whole foods recommended so much? Firstly, they are not processed. This means, there are no additives in there. This means that everything is natural. The human body is made for digesting natural foods. Due to these additives and extra processing, it causes gut inflammation. Since out gut is inflamed, it’ll slow down any other healing process and make it look like there is a belly. Secondly, it decreases the chance of cancer, diabetes, heart diseases and other health problems.

This comes back to it being unprocessed again. When processing food plenty of chemicals, MSGs, fats and oils are added to a product. This chemical mixture is like a time bomb that is going to explode in your body. A build-up of these may causes unhealthy reactions in your body leading to cancers. Finally, they overflow with healthy nutrients. These food were literally designed for the human race to keep us going! They are filled with everything we need. Don’t get me wrong, supplements are extremely useful when used correctly. But most of our daily nutrition is already lie in whole foods!

So next time you pick up something from the supermarket, think bigger picture than is it yum? Whole food can be just as tasty if prepped right! So make sure you read the label carefully and choose what’s best for you body!

Stress And The Common Cold

Stress And the Common Cold

Stress has a major influence on the function of your immune system. For instance, have you noticed you’re more likely to catch a cold when under a lot of stress? This is true both for acute stress, such as preparing a big project for work, and chronic stress, such as relationship troubles or grief. Both can deteriorate immune systems and leave us less able to fight off infection.

Researchers have now revealed that the hormone ‘cortisol’ may play an intricate role in stress and sickness. Concluding that high levels of stress can have such a detrimental impact on our immune systems.

The Perfect “Recipe” for Avoiding Colds

Chronic stress and vitamin D deficiency can be described as the perfect ‘storm’ for developing colds. If you’re facing these two scenarios and are exposed to a cold virus, then you guessed it! There’s a good chance you’re going to get sick.

Cold viruses can live almost anywhere. On pens, computer keyboards, coffee mugs, handbags.. so it’s easy to come into contact with such viruses in daily life. The important key to remember is that just by being exposed to a cold virus doesn’t have to mean that we catch a cold. If our immune system is operating at it’s peak, it should be quite easy for you to fend off the virus without ever getting sick.

If you want to join the ranks of people who rarely get sick, start with strategies listed below. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but it does give you a general idea of how to live healthy and avoid getting frequent colds and other infections. Other factors, like getting high-quality sleep and avoiding exposure to environmental toxins, are important too. Here are a few simple starters to boost your immunity straight away:

  • Reduce and Eliminate Stress in Your Life.
  • Optimise Your Vitamin D Levels.
  • Optimise Your Insulin and Leptin Levels by Avoiding Sugar, Fructose.

Eating sugar, fructose and grains will increase your insulin levels. This is one of the fastest ways to get sick and experience premature ageing. Leptin is another key hormone associated with disease and the ageing process. Similar to insulin levels, leptin levels can also become consistently elevated. If they do, our bodies can develop resistance to this hormone, which may wreak havoc in your body.

Exercise

If you are exercising regularly, the likelihood of acquiring a cold or other viral illness is significantly reduced. In one study, staying active cut the risk of contracting a cold by 50%, and cut the severity of symptoms by 31% among those who did catch a cold. The researchers noted that each round of exercise lead to a boost in circulating immune system cells that could help ward off a virus.

Did you know that exercise improves the circulation of immune cells in your blood? The job of these cells is to neutralise pathogens throughout your body. The better these cells circulate, the more efficient your immune system is at locating and defending against viruses and other pathogens that may opportunistically overrun the body.

Eat Plenty of Raw Food

One of the most important aspects of a healthy diet that is frequently overlooked is the issue of eating uncooked, natural raw food.

Unfortunately, over 90% of the food purchased by most New Zealanders is processed. When we consume these kinds of denatured and chemically altered foods, it’s no surprise we have an epidemic of chronic and degenerative diseases. Not to mention way too many cases of colds and flu. Ideally you’ll want to eat as many foods as possible in their unprocessed state. Typically organic, biodynamic foods that have been grown locally, and are in season. Even when you choose the best foods available we can destroy much of the nutrition if you cook them. Try to eat RAW as much as possible!

When to visit your Chiropractor?

A common question that chiropractors often hear: Should I get adjusted when I’m sick? My answer is almost always YES! The body’s ability to heal quickly and efficiently, are made up of many moments of positive choices. Healthy alignment of the spine is an extremely important factor to strengthening immunity.
