Dance and Chiropractic

Most people associate Chiropractic care with back pain, neck pain and headaches, but Chiropractic care also allows for optimal performance. This is essential for dancers wanting to dance, perform and experience at their optimal potential. Chiropractic care helps your nervous system health, joints, and your overall wellbeing and performance. All these points are extremely relevant to a dancer wanting to achieve the best performance. There are many different ways Chiropractic care can help improve your dancing ability.

Dancers are under constant stress and strain and need their body to be in the utmost physical condition in terms of strength and fitness. It is important to have a normal structure as dancers, as this directly impacts performance and wellbeing. Dancers are under constant stress due to the many practices which can lead to repetitive stress. When the body is not properly aligned, it is more prone to injury. Most dance injuries are due to overuse due to repetitive movements and practice. The more you dance, the more your body is under stress, the more prone to injury your body is. This just means you have to take extra care of your body!

Dance requires a great deal of coordination and balance. This branches from a combination of having strong muscles, ligaments and bones. Along with these 3 aspects being strong, a clear brain body connection is needed to control different parts of the musculoskeletal system. Having abnormal alignment in your body can cause impaired signals in the connection between your brain and body. For dancers, the consequence of this is the muscles and joints working harder than they need to. This can also impact the dancers artistic expression and emotion.

If there are any imbalances in a dancers body, the body has to compensate for these weaknesses. It is essential to reduce these imbalances where possible to allow for the body to work on the areas that are under pressure from dance itself rather than compensations. If there are unnecessary strains on the body due to a structural shift, the body and nervous system has to work that much harder just to manage a normal structure and prevent injury.

Dance often causes muscles to feel overworked, tense and a little painful. Chiropractic care can help alleviate some of the pain and help restore flexibility and range of motion. Chiropractors can also help by adjusting extremities which helps in proper body alignment through adjusting the hips, feet, shoulders and more.

With better alignment comes better balance which has a positive impact on the way you dance! Proper alignment means better performance!
