For many mum and babies breastfeeding can be a real challenge.
We know that about 80-90% of mum try to breastfeed at birth but by one week of age as few as half of mums are still exclusively breastfeeding. This figure continues to drop with only about 1% of mum exclusively breastfeeding when baby is 6 months old, which is the recommended time we should exclusively breastfeed for.
There are of course many reasons why mums give up on this, from sore nipples to inadequate milk supply, or baby having issues with latching to suckling. All too often these problems lead to too much pain, or even breast infection and ultimately and understandably mum giving up on breastfeeding because it just gets too hard.
This is a real shame, because we know that it is really important for babies health. We know that babies who are breastfed are less likely to suffer from ear infections and tummy bugs, they’re even less likely to develop asthma and other conditions that can be life threatening.
It just goes without saying that nature knows best and that breastfeeding is the optimal form of nutrition for infants.
So if someone is having issues with breastfeeding, what can they do about it? luckily help is available.
-Lactation consultants and other health professionals can really help mums and babies to overcome the breastfeeding issues.
-One health care profession that many mums turn to for help is their family chiropractor.
But why might a chiropractor help with breastfeeding? Well the answer is really simple. Chiropractors see babies to help improve the way their body and nervous system functions so that they can get the best possible start in life.
Who’s a big chocolate fan?? I know I am. And when I mean chocolate, I mean dark chocolate. Like at least 40% Cacao. Anything underneath that isn’t really classified as proper chocolate to me. Those usually contain a high amount of sugar and dairy and don’t really have the full health benefit that Cacao does. So today, let’s dive into the 4 benefits of consuming chocolate.
Benefits of eating chocolate
Cocao is super nutritious. Just as perspective 100 grams of dark chocolate contains 11grams of fiber. Fiber is essential for your digestive system. Allowing stools to pass through with ease. It also covers many other daily nutrients as well and a good portion of recommended daily intake such as 67% of iron, 58% of magnesium, 89% of copper, and a lot of other stuff. But please don’t eat 100g of dark chocolate as they are also very calorie-dense.
Cacao has the ability to improve blood flow. Inside our arteries, there is a lining called the endothelium. The function of the endothelium is to act as a filter and regulate blood flow by relaxing the arteries. This process is done by producing Nitric Oxide. Research has shown that cacao stimulates the production of nitric oxide in the arteries thus allowing a better flow of blood in the arteries.
Cacao can lower LDL while raising HDL. In a study, cocoa powder showed that it can reduce oxidated LDL. LDL itself is bad because it can clog the artery making it harder for blood to pass through. Oxidated LDL is even worse as once it reacts with oxygen it is capable of damaging surrounding tissue like arteries in your heart. HDL is the good cholesterol and helps maintain the levels of LDL. So eating dark chocolate in moderate amounts is good for heart health.
Finally, consuming moderate amounts of chocolate can improve brain function. This is because chocolate can improve blood flow. This includes blood flow into the brain. Thus the brain will get more nutrients and oxygen, allowing it to grow and function at its best. A study also showed that it can significantly improve cognitive function and verbal fluency, especially in the older population. This is due to the fact that cacao has a stimulant similar to coffee, resulting in short term improvement in brain function.
Chocolate is a super delicious and affordable treat. A couple of benefits are nutritional values, improve blood flow, cholesterol maintenance, and improvement in brain function. It’s a lovely treat for your body but remember to have it in moderation. Too much chocolate will result in diabetes and other health issues due to too much sugar consumption.
The birthing process is a very complicated process that puts a lot of stress on both the mother and the baby. Because birth is so complicated, numerous things can go wrong. However, chiropractic is an amazing tool for any expecting mother, that has benefits for both mum and baby. Before, during, and after labor, and helps provide a safe and comfortable birthing process. Here is how chiropractic can help at all stages of the birthing process.
It is important to get checked by a chiropractor from the beginning of your pregnancy, as being under chiropractic care allows your pelvis to comfortably expand and change in order to give space for your baby to grow. If the baby has room to grow comfortably this will allow them to be in the best position possible for when it is time to give birth1. However, some babies can sometimes end up in the wrong position for birthing – known as breech position.
Most babies in the breech position need some type of intervention, such a a Caesarean section, to help them be born safely. There is a pregnancy specific chiropractic technique, called Webster technique, that focuses on balancing the pelvis, including pelvic muscles and ligaments. This can help take pressure off the uterus, and can result in the baby repositioning itself into the ideal position for birth taking away the need for extra interventions2.
Because chiropractic balances the joints of the pelvis and gets the nervous system working at its best, this usually results in faster and easier births. This is due to a few reasons. As mentioned above, chiropractic care allows the baby to be in the best possible position for birth, it also makes sure that the mother’s pelvis is ready for giving birth. Because chiropractic clears interference from the nervous system, this allows the brain to be able to better control the uterus and cervix, allowing the birth process to happen faster and more smoothly3.
Chiropractic care and reducing labour time
Estimates show that women under chiropractic care, have on average a 25-30% shorter labour time than those who are not under chiropractic care4. When the labour can run without complications due to the baby’s position, this decreases the need for extra medical interventions, allowing for a safer and more comfortable birth for both mother and baby. Chiropractic also has an impact on pelvis floor muscles, giving them a better ability to relax when the pelvic floor muscles are at rest. These muscles are very important in giving birth. When these muscles are working properly, it increases the chances of being able to have a safe, natural vaginal birth5.
Chiropractic is important for the mother both before and after giving birth. Because it equips her body to be able to bounce back to normal as quickly as possible. If there was for some reason some type of trauma during the birth, chiropractic increases the body’s healing capabilities, allowing the mother to heal as fast and effectively as possible4.
Even a safe, fast birth can still cause a lot of trauma and stress on the newborn baby’s system. It’s important to check after birth so chiropractors can find any areas of stress caused by the birthing process. Then remove them using extremely gentle and safe techniques, specific for very young children. From the moment babies are born, their brain and body start growing and adapting. Chiropractic clears their nervous system from any stress that may have been caused by the birthing process, which allows them to grow and function at their very best.

What changes does the body go through during pregnancy and how can chiropractic care help?
Pregnancy is a beautiful thing as you are growing a brand new human inside of you. However, while this is happening, it causes a lot of changes in your own body too. Different changes happen throughout different parts of your pregnancy and will differ from mother to mother, as no two pregnancies are the same. While these will be different for everyone, these are some of the changes you can expect as you progress through your pregnancy.
First trimester in pregnancy
It is very common during early pregnancy to feel very fatigued and low on energy, as your body adapts to all the changes it is going through. It’s also common to experience some nausea and vomiting due to the pregnancy hormones, these may also cause some emotional symptoms. You will likely need to urinate more as the baby starts growing and starts pressing on your bladder. Heartburn, constipation, and lightheadedness are all common in the first trimester. You will also start noticing skin, breast, vaginal, and stomach changes.
Second trimester in pregnancy
Most women have a lot more energy in the second trimester than they do in the first trimester, and are less likely to experience nausea and vomiting. Your stomach will continue to grow as your baby does. Your skin will continue to change. You may start experiencing pain in your legs due to the growing baby placing pressure on nerves and blood vessels. You may also start to experience pain in your back, hips, and pelvis. This can be because of the pressure your growing belly is putting on these areas, and because your ligaments start to relax to allow your pelvis to move in order to be ready for childbirth. You may also experience some stomach pain as the muscles and ligaments supporting your uterus stretch.
Third trimester in pregnancy
It’s normal to start to feel fatigued again. You will feel your baby start to move more and are likely experience some swelling throughout your body due to slower blood circulation and fluid retention. Some women experience numbness and tingling in your arm and legs due to increased pressure on the nerves throughout your body. You will likely still experience the same types of pain as you did in the second trimester.
How can chiropractic assist me through my pregnancy journey?
As you can see above your body goes through numerous changes as you go through your pregnancy journey. It is important to give your body as much support as you can throughout this time, and chiropractic is a safe and natural way to assist your body to be as strong and healthy as it can be while you are growing a baby inside of you. There are many different chiropractic techniques that can be utilised for the pregnant body, and all chiropractors are trained in how to provide care specific for a pregnant person. Here are just some of the ways that chiropractic can assist you on your pregnancy journey.
1. Lower back pain
As your stomach grows this changes your posture, your weight bearing, and the way you walk. All of this puts stress on the joints of the lower spine, which can sometimes result in lower back pain. Chiropractic is able to get those joint moving and functioning properly, which decreases the stress on them, and regularly results in less pain.
2. Balance pelvis
The ligaments of the pelvis relax and the pelvis expands as the baby grows. This however can sometimes cause weakness and pain in the hips and pelvis. Chiropractic makes sure all of the joints are moving and functioning well, so as they move and change they are still strong, stable, and balanced. This can decrease pain levels and allows the pelvis to safely expand to allow room for the baby to grow and move into the best position possible.
3. Abdominal pain
Abdominal pain during pregnancy is usually caused by stretching of the ligaments that are attached to the uterus, as the uterus expands to accommodate the growing baby. This tends to cause cramping and discomfort. There are specific chiropractic techniques, such as Webster technique, that help to relax these ligaments to ease pain and cramping as they stretch.
4. Decrease pain killers
Anything that the mother ingests, the baby will also take into their system. Chiropractic has been shown to remove up to 85% of pain symptoms that pregnant people experience, thus reducing the need for painkillers, and decreasing the baby’s exposure to these medications while in the womb.
5. Increase nervous system function
Chiropractic is all about removing interference from the nervous system so that it can work at its best. As the nervous system is the master controller of all body systems, including the reproductive system, chiropractic care allows the body to function at its best while it is going through all the changes of pregnancy. This is why people notice other benefits other than those mentioned above, such as increased energy and less heartburn, and why chiropractic is extremely beneficial in all stages of pregnancy.
Are you a parent and want to know how a child Chiropractor can improve your child’s posture, overall health and well being?
No parent wants to see their children in pain or constantly sick, but it does happen from time to time. Children occasionally get headaches, suffer from allergies, get earaches, have back pain and most have terrible postures. Basically, the list is endless. As a parent, you know that children are like magnets to injuries, pain, and illness. Although most are minor, care should be sought, but where should you turn? Instead of heading to your child’s GP, head to a local chiropractor for chiropractic care. Why?
1 – A Child Chiropractor can Safety Treat Your Child
Chiropractic care is gentle, natural and non invasive. A child chiropractor knows and has several tools and techniques to adjust your child’s spine ever so gently. For that reason, it is safe. If your child experiences pain and discomfort, their primary care physician is likely to suggest over-the-counter pain relievers or prescribe prescription medication. This may work, but the pain usually returns. Why? They only mask the problem. Yes, some forms of pain and discomfort may disappear on their own with time and self-care, but there may be a more serious underlying issue. You will not know unless you turn to a chiropractor. Their job is to treat the pain by going directly to the source and fixing the problem.
Chiropractic care involves manual, hands on, therapy. Since medications are not prescribed and the hands provide treatment, it is safe for individuals of all ages, including children.
2 – A Child Chiropractor Can Treat a Wide Range of Problems
Many adults mistakenly believe that chiropractors only treat spinal, back, and neck problems. Yes, this is their specialty, but more is offered. For example, did you know that a chiropractor can treat and lessen the onset of earaches and ear infections? They can. Blocked draining pathways cause most ear infections. Chiropractic adjustments are used to open up those pathways and promote the proper flow of fluid. Basically, if your child is experiencing pain, no matter how often or severe, a chiropractor can provide relief and that relief is usually long-lasting.
3 – It Is Easy to Find a Child Chiropractor
If you are unfamiliar with chiropractic care, you may have not given any thought to the offices in your area. You may have driven past one each day on the way to work. A standard google internet search can find you a local chiropractor. Be sure to check out their google reviews. Call and schedule an appointment for your child. It really is as easy as that!
4 – The Benefits of Chiropractic Care for Your Child
There are many benefits to chiropractic care. As previously stated, medications are not prescribed. Treatment is natural and safe. It is also long-lasting, as chiropractors do not mask the pain, they treat it. As a parent, this should be very important. Successful chiropractic care can allow your child to return to their happy normal self. Reduced pain and increased mobility means more fun and less suffering even into their adulthood.
Potential benefits of Chiropractic care for babies and kids:
Encourages good neural plasticity (brain and nerve development).
Supports overall health and well being.
Helps strengthen immunity and potentially reduce the incidence of colds, ear-aches and general illness.
Assists with colic and Irritable Baby Syndrome.
Helps with asthma, breathing difficulties and allergies.
5 – Some Health Insurance Policies Cover Chiropractic Care
It is no secret that raising kids is expensive. Add in the cost of medical care, and the overall cost soars. Luckily, many insurance providers extend coverage for chiropractic care. If your family is not covered by medical insurance, there are still benefits to seeking care. Just look for a chiropractor with affordable rates or one who is willing to set up a flexible payment plan.
Migraines are a neurological condition that affects up to 15% of the population. They are categorised as a severe headache that usually only occurs on one side of the head along with other symptoms including nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and noise. Migraines can be a seriously debilitating condition, as they can be so severe that they stop you from being able to perform your normal daily activities or work, and can last from hours to days.
There are many different triggers that can cause a migraine to come on. Because of the large number of possible triggers it can be hard to pinpoint what causes migraines for each individual person, making it hard to prevent them from occurring. Possible triggers can include stress, caffeine, hormonal changes, food, alcohol, genetic predisposition, head injury, and muscle tension.
Migraines & Medication
There is no one cure for migraines, and the aim of medical treatment is generally to relieve the symptoms as soon as they start, and to try and prevent future attacks. Classical medical treatments include different types of medication and avoiding the triggers that cause the migraines in the first place. Generally a mix of medication and changing lifestyle factors is used, and effectiveness of treatments differ from person to person.
How Can Chiropractic Help With Migraines?
While classic medical treatments work for some people, there are numerous reasons that people can’t or don’t want to take medicine that may be prescribed to them for their migraines. Some people can’t take the medication, as it clashes with medication they need to take for other preexisting conditions they have. Others may have tried many different medications and found that none of them work for them. There will also be many people looking for a more natural treatment that doesn’t have the same side effects that medications have. Many people will be looking for a natural treatment to help ease the stress and pain caused by migraines.
Chiropractic care assists in the treatment of migraines in many different ways:
Chiropractic care reduces stress and tension within the spine, and thus reduces tension in the surrounding muscles. As tight neck and back muscles are a major cause of headaches and migraines, this is a great way of preventing and treating the cause of migraines. Rather than trying to mask the symptoms when they appear.
It improves the movement in the joints of the spine and body thereby strengthening the muscles supporting them. This helps to reverse the compensations and allow real healing to occur.
It can improve the function of your nerves and nervous system. By re-aligning the spine the nervous system can function at its best and allow the body and the brain to effectively communicate. This decreases irritation of nerves that may be sending pain signals to the brain, improves the healing potential of the body.
Chiropractic has been shown to be at least equally as effective as current medication used for treating migraines, without the same negative side effects. It also focuses more on treating the cause of the migraines, rather than the symptoms. Thus chiropractic is a safe and effective alternative for anyone suffering from migraines.

Chiropractic Care, is it just about back and neck pain or is there more to it?
Chiropractic care can help with many things other than your back and neck pain. So, what is Chiropractor care exactly? Read on to find out.
The goal of Chiropractic care is to enhance your body’s function via the nervous system via the spine. Chiropractic care is about improving the motion of the joints of the spinal column (vertebrae) and therefore improving the nervous system. Your Chiropractor can also improve the motion of the joints of the rest of the body if needed.
The spine has two main functions:
(1) to provide support & allow movement
(2) to house & protect your spinal cord/nerves
The function of the nervous system:
The nervous system controls the function of every cell/tissue/organ in your body. Messages are transmitted from your brain, down your spinal cord, across exiting nerves to a particular body part; and then back up to your brain again.
These messages can be interrupted by spinal misalignments and this can affect and lower the function of the body part they are innervating.
A great deal of our clients visit us for wellbeing and maintenance check ups. Similar to how you may visit your dentist to have your teeth checked. You can visit a Chiropractor to have your spine checked and to prevent problems and damage.
So why should I care about misaligned joints?
When your joints (any joint) are misaligned, they cannot move optimally. When a joint does not move optimally, 3 things happen:
1. The stabilising muscles that support that joint become lazy and weak. How?
Just like having a cast on your arm or leg, without moving the joints for just 1-2 months you will see a huge reduction of muscle tone and strength.
2. Nerve connection to that part of the body diminishes.
As the joints and muscles lose their movement and strength, the brains ability to send information to that part of the body also diminishes. Why? The brain uses the receptors in these joints and muscles to function correctly therefore with a lack of motion and activity, the brain can’t do its job properly. It’s use it or lose it for the body, brain and nerve connections.
3. Damage and degeneration (osteoarthritis) occurs.
More specific to the spine, without proper movement of the joints and strength of the muscles of the spine, the spinal curves lose their most functional shape and instead of acting like springs to distribute everyday forces, all the forces go onto the bones and discs of the spine and cause degeneration, damage/injury and other dysfunctions to occur. Note: this can happen anywhere in the body and in any joint.
Why is muscle strength important? (more specifically the deep stabilising muscles)
The deep stabilising muscles and their strength and activity are important because when they are not supporting a joint properly a whole host of problems can arise.
These muscles keep the joints in their proper position… so when they are weak:
a) The joint is not getting any support. b) It’s not in its optimal position. c) Keeps locking up and lacks proper movement. d) The muscles keep getting weaker. e) The cycle keeps getting worse over time. f) Creates damage inside the bones, joints, discs and nerves.
This weakness and instability within the deep stabilising muscles also creates tightness and stiffness in and around the bigger muscles around the body such as the chest, shoulders, lower back, buttock and even arms and legs, creating a whole chain of improper movement and stress through the body.
What else is Chiropractic care good for?
As I write this, I have helped people with:
-Vertigo (a specific type of dizziness that’s debilitating) -Other types of dizziness and lightheadedness -Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) -TMJ pain (jaw pain) -Headaches -Migraines -Cluster headaches -Sinus problems -Pregnancy related problems -Breach baby/babies (turning the baby) -Infant related problems such as colic, feeding issues, sleep issues, digestive issues, developmental delays. -Childhood disorders such as bed wetting, improving concentration, behavioural disorders.
What is Frozen Shoulder and Can a Chiropractor Help?
Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition in which the shoulder becomes very painful and stiff. This typically happens gradually, starting with painful movement of the shoulder and arm in all directions. The shoulder will slowly lose movement until it has minimal or no movement. A chiropractor, more specifically a structural chiropractor can be of great help if you want to get to the root cause of a frozen shoulder problem. Keep reading to find out how.
What Causes Frozen Shoulder?
The most likely reason you may be experiencing frozen shoulder symptoms is due to structural shifts in your spine and the rest of your body. Structural shifts add extra stress and pressure onto the muscles, ligaments, bone, joints and nerves. Over time extra stress can wear away and damage these important structures. Structural shifts also make it harder for your nerves to communicate with your muscles and joints. This can lead to the weakening of the the supporting muscles around a joint. Your brain then compensates by creating tight and stiff muscles on the outside to support the joints (to stop the progressive damage that can occur).
Frozen shoulder also tends to be more common in women and in people over 40. Frozen shoulder doesn’t tend to reoccur in the same shoulder, but can sometimes happen in the opposite shoulder of the same person.
What’s the best treatment for frozen shoulder? Can a Chiropractor help?
While it possible for frozen shoulder to heal either on its own or with the assistance of range of motion exercises, this can take months if not years to heal. Even if the symptoms go away, the root cause is likely still there so it may lead to other issues. Leaving a frozen shoulder to heal on its own can also frequently end up needing more invasive medical intervention.
Medical treatment for frozen shoulder can include anti-inflammatory medication like aspirin or ibuprofen to help with the pain and inflammation, steroid injections, or even surgery.
How can chiropractic help with frozen shoulder?
Chiropractic is a safe, natural, and effective way of assisting the body to heal, in a more timely manner. There are a few ways that chiropractors can assist in helping a frozen shoulder to heal. Most people will know that chiropractors deal with the spine. While you may think that adjusting the spine won’t be able to help the shoulder, this is not necessarily true.
Our neck, shoulders, and upper back are all closely related, sharing many muscles and all relying on each other to work properly. When we adjust the neck and upper back, we bring back stability and strength to the spine. Thereby placing less stress on the shoulders and allowing the frozen shoulder to heal quicker and easier.
Structural chiropractors are also trained in adjusting all of the extremities (joints in the arms and legs) too. Chiropractors can adjust the shoulder joint in order to start bringing some more motion to the joint. Chiropractors have a good understanding of the shoulder and the surrounding areas too. Along with your chiropractic care, they can provide stretches and exercises to get the shoulder healing as quickly as possible.
Chiropractic isn’t a quick fix for this, it will still take multiple sessions of care along with exercises to get the shoulder moving and healing. But chiropractic care can significantly reduce the amount of time needed to recover. It can also remove the need for more invasive medical interventions such as steroid injections or surgery.
Should you see a Chiropractor for your Frozen Shoulder?
See your structural chiropractor for a full understanding of why you’re experiencing frozen shoulder symptoms and how you can fix the root cause of the problem. You won’t regret it. Find a structural chiropractor who offers complimentary consultations so you can explain your symptoms and condition and they will then be able tell you HOW and IF they can help. This is exactly why we offer this service in our clinic in Northcote, Auckland. We want to make sure we hear everything first before we can tell you if this is something we can help with and how. It’s just a consultation, not a commitment to care.
What does research say about the effectiveness of Chiropractic for Frozen Shoulder?
A study was done in 2012 looking at patients with frozen shoulder under chiropractic care. These patients were under care for an average of 28 days (with a range of 11 to 51 days). Of these patients, 32% had 100% resolution of their frozen shoulder, with only 2% experiencing 50% or less improvement in their symptoms. 50% had 75% – 90% improvement, and 16% had 50% to 75% improvement within this timeframe.
This is opposed to the months or even years that this condition usually takes to resolve. This study further reiterates that while chiropractic is not a magic pill for this condition, it can drastically increase the speed of recovery and minimise the need for more invasive medical interventions, that may results in other issues.

Chiropractic Treatment, is it a lifelong commitment?
The answer to that question is really up to your preference and how you prioritise your overall health. Is Chiropractic treatment and keeping your health well maintained one of your priorities? Or are you too busy to care about your health?
Chiropractic treatment is a great way to take care of your body. Whether it’s getting you out of pain, creating better posture or just improving your overall wellness and health, it is a great for you in many ways.
Most chiropractors design a care plan that starts with more frequent visits and it usually tapers down over a period of several weeks or months depending on the severity of your condition. However, do they ever tell you to stop coming in for chiropractic treatment? If not; are they just wanting your money or do they genuinely care about your health?
Structural Chiropractic Treatment
If you’re looking to correct the underlying problems in your spine and set up a strong and healthy foundation, you need structural chiropractic treatment to optimise the shape and curves of your spine and this is not going to happen in 1 or 2 visits. Although amazing things can and do happen in just a few chiropractic treatments, it does not mean that your problem is completely fixed at its core. It’s physiologically impossible for your body to go through such changes in such a short period of time.
For example, most people know how long it usually takes to restructure the teeth. A lot of people either have had braces in their lifetime or have known someone that has. Restructuring the teeth usually takes 18-24 months! Applying this to your spine, it would be outrageous to think a chiropractor can fix your back in just a couple of visits. Remember, symptom relief is NOT the same is fixing the problem.
Initial Chiropractic Treatment
The reason why Structural Chiropractors see their clients more frequently for a few weeks or months to start with is because the areas of the spine that have misalignments, have been in a misaligned position for days, weeks, months or even years so the muscles and ligaments around these joints are extremely weak. To build the strength of these muscles and ligaments again, we have to keep adjusting those joints and with doing do, there’s immediate muscle activation around them which makes them strong again which keep your spine well supported so everything can heal from within.
Strengthening muscles takes time. Everybody knows this. Have you ever gone to the gym and done one workout and felt like you have gained your maximum strength?
Protective Chiropractic Treatment
After the initial phase of chiropractic treatment, you’ll be shown your results and your chiropractor will give you recommendations on what they think is the best way to go forward but they will also tell you that it’s up to you to decide. Do you want to stop your chiropractic treatment and let your body go backwards again? Or do you want some less frequent visits to protect what you’ve achieved and go further into obtaining wellness and health?
Being on protective chiropractic treatment is much like keeping up your fitness by continuing to go to the gym or play in some kind of sport, or keeping your health optimum by eating the right foods.
If you eat well for 3 months and then let it all go again, what you achieved will all be reversed. if you go to the gym for 6 months and get fitter and stronger than you were before but then let it go again, what you achieved will all be reversed. Same thing can happen when you use chiropractic treatment to get your body structure nice and strong again, but then let it all go, your body will change and go backwards.
Chiropractors are more interested in preserving and maintaining your health through chiropractic treatment. We are just keeping your body well serviced like a car to allow it to function better and prevent future problems as much as possible. In the end, it is up to you whether or not you want to keep your body well serviced and maintained.

Chiropractic is so much more than ‘cracking’ backs!
Contrary to what most people think, Chiropractic care is not just for neck and back pain. I suppose when we become sick, we don’t tend to say, “I think my nervous system needs fixing.” Although, this can exactly the case. To apprehend how powerful chiropractic care can be, an understanding of the importance of the nervous system is crucial.
The nervous system is so vital and central to controlling functioning of our bodies. Without it, our hearts would stop beating, our lungs will collapse and the body will be at a halt.
The two main parts of the nervous system are the brain and the spinal cord. Without the brain, we would not be able to give commands out to other areas in our body (eg limbs and organs.) And we would not be able to receive, process and interpret messages from the rest of the body. The spinal cord acts as the main pathway that delivers the messages from the brain to the rest of the body and vice versa. If we think about it, the spinal cord is just like the main highway and the messages from the brain leave the main highway to different parts of the body. The nervous system is what powers and governs the body. Without it, our bodies would not be able to function.
The Spinal Cord
So how does this relate to the spine? Well like we just mentioned above, the nervous system consists of two main parts; the brain and the spinal cord. It’s common knowledge that the skull protects the brain and spine protects the spinal cord. This means that the spine and the spinal cord have a very close relationship with each other. Sometimes life’s physical (repetitive movements, staying in one position too long, etc.) and mental (financial, relationships, anxiety, etc.) stressors can alter the spinal structure. This alteration in the structure will act as a roadblock for the nervous system in the spine. This is why achieving the best functioning spinal structure, is our goal at Revolution Chiropractic. We know that by having a healthy spine and good structure, we minimise musculoskeletal problems as well as maintaining a healthy nervous system.
So there you have it, Chiropractic is so much more than just pain. Only 10% or the nerves that run through the spine are related to back and neck pain. The other 90% is all about the information from the brain to and from the rest of the body. Hopefully, you are now aware that the nervous system governs every part of the body and how a healthy, well-structured spine is central to improving the brain-body connection.
Keeping your Nervous System at its optimum state
Chiropractic care helps keep the nervous system healthy. When your spine is misaligned, the messages that are carried through the spine aren’t firing properly, throwing the body out of whack. This can wreck havoc on daily life but also increase chances of developing various diseases later down the line. Having regular visits with your chiropractor can assist you in maintaining a healthy functioning nervous system and thus – healthier brain and body!
