New Years Resolutions

Happy New Year Everyone! Welcome to 2020! 2019 is in the past now so let’s forget all the negative and continue with the positives! As the New Year is here, most of us will have or will set new goals to achieve for 2020. Whether it is to get into the shape of your life, financial goals or other things, the most important thing is to be able to achieve them.  There are 4 things that you should be mindful of when setting your new goals. By following these tips, you’ll achieve your goal!

Steps to effective resolutions

  1. Make sure your resolution is achievable – There is no point in making a goal that is no way attainable. It’s good to aim high but it’s just as important to be realistic. If the goals you set are unattainable, it’ll just lead to disappointment. For example, wanting to earn over a million dollars over the next year if you have no source of income to begin with is very unrealistic. These are they type of goals that should not be set as it is nowhere near achievable.
  2. Make it measurable – Having a goal that is measurable is just as important. This gives you a guideline of where you are up to. It also makes sure that you are on course to complete your goal. If it’s not measurable, you can’t track your progress and over the course of the year you may forget about it. A measurable doesn’t necessarily have to include numbers. For example, you want to stop biting your nails, take pictures of your nails over time so you can track your progress in how those nails grow back out. By taking pictures and logging your progress you can see the achievements you have made which gives you further motivation to carry out your personal goals.
  3. Your resolution should be specific – Having a specific goal is going to be more effective than just a general goal. This gives you something to aim for. An example of this would be “I want to lose weight” vs “I want to lose 5 pounds over the next two months”. The second one is more specific, achievable and it can be measured. Of course, after the two months another goal can be set so gradually you’ll meet the target that you wanted to achieve at the beginning of the year.
  4. Stick to it – This is the final tip. A research has shown that if you stick to something for 21 days continuously, it becomes a habit. By persevering, even if you don’t achieve your goal, you can proudly hold your head up high and say that you’ve given it your best shot. There will be hard times throughout the year but if we keep sticking to it results will bound to show over time.

Follow these 4 tips to set your New Year resolutions. Don’t let the failures of 2019 hold you back! Remember 2020 is a new year and a new decade! So let’s start it off the way we want it to. Good luck with the goals that you’ve set and I hope you’ll achieve them!
