We are so excited to be offering 5 different types of yoga classes (varying in levels), in our sunny Northcote studio. See below for details.
YOGA CLASS TYPES
The most common and popular type of yoga, Hatha Yoga represents a yoga practice that balances the polarities—the sun and moon energy, the light and the dark—within oneself. It’s a well-rounded practice that is a happy medium, infusing elements from various other styles of Yoga. A great class if you’ve practiced Yoga before, or one to attend with a friend.
A dynamic flow where postures move from one to another in perfect connection with your breath. The process is so smooth that it can feel like there are no pauses, which is why it’s often called “Flow Yoga”. Vinyasa Yoga classes are always mixed up and different, so they’re perfect if you want something new every time. There is a focus on strengthening and stretching the body with this type of yoga, so it’s also ideal for those who want to get in shape.
Pregnancy / Prenatal Yoga
Prenatal yoga is a great way to improve sleep as it encourages mental centering, stretching, and focused breathing. It is also a great opportunity to socialise and meet other pregnant women which will help overcome any stress that comes with parenthood.
Restorative / Yin Yoga
A slower-paced practice, Yin Yoga goes deeper than Flow Yoga to target deep connective tissue in the body including ligaments, bones and joints. Yin Yoga involves passive stretching and encourages you to completely relax in the pose for a longer period of time. You’ll use props like yoga blocks, blankets and bolsters to help and will walk out feeling relaxed and aligned - A great practice for mindfulness, and a good challenge too.
Designed specifically to improve muscle strength and cardiovascular endurance, Power Yoga focuses on the physical benefits of yoga and skips heavy elements of meditation and spirituality. The poses are challenging, and you move from one pose to the next in quick succession, focusing highly on cardio, flexibility and building stamina. This is a physically demanding type of yoga practice, sometimes using resistance bands and weights.
Pilates is an effective low-impact workout that emphasises your body’s core — The abdomen, obliques, lower back, inner and outer thighs, glutes, and so on. Pilates develops strength, balance, body awareness & flexibility. It can be beneficial for toning up muscles, improving posture and body alignment. It can also help with recovery from back pain and other injuries by strengthening the affected area.
We are so excited to be offering Pilates classes of all levels, in our sunny Northcote studio. See below for details.
If you’re unsure where to start, come along to any class and let the teacher know your experience and they will make sure you are well looked after or book in for a private lesson. The teacher will be able to advise you on your current level, as well as personal goals and timeframes they recommend to perfect your craft. (might need to book a complimentary chat for that)
Movement Rehabilitation is a fusion of strengthening all the deep stabilizers of your spine and body with myofascial stretching of the muscles. You will feel amazing, strong and loose after these classes and will find those nagging pains that have been hanging around for a while vanish in a matter of a session or two.
In movement rehab classes the focus is on rehabilitating parts of your body that are either injured, weak or dysfunctional and are causing you acute or chronic pain. This is a great way to reduce and eliminate your pain, reverse damage and make your body functional again. These classes are under the guidance of Dr Sam who has been in the fitness and rehabilitation industries for over 15 years and is also a practising Chiropractor for over 7 years. She has a lot of knowledge and tools and can improve your body no matter what state you're at.
Core strength is about building your entire body's core to optimal state so you get stronger, get abs if you want, recover from injuries, or prevent injuries. This is not just about lower back pain. The core runs from your head to your toes and most people have no idea how to exercise or activate their core muscles or even what they are. They think of core muscles as their ab muscles, and they think doing planks and sit ups is going to strengthen their core and get rid of their problems or give them a very strong core.
This is a great class that pushes you so you feel like you've really worked your muscles and burned fat. The classes are small so anyone from beginners to advanced is welcome as we can give you beginner to advanced variations of the same exercise so everybody gets a great workout that's at their level.
Nothing beats the electricity of exercising in a group. Bring a friend, or make new ones while you’re here. There are 13 mat spaces available per class, so relatively intimate, with room for you to move and perfect your craft.
Get one-on-one (or two-on-one) coaching and tips through private tuition - A great way to build up to group classes or target an area you need help with. These 60-minute classes can work around your lifestyle, and you’re welcome to bring a friend too.
